Magnificent Masks

LI - to use variety of skills to design and make a mask

Room 2 has worked incredibly hard to work on this project. We started nice and early from end of Term 2 to study the history and the background of masks, came up with our own first design in our sketch books and then added more details to it after watching designers making them on videos.

We first chose our colours we will use. We were heavily influenced by Venetian masks so our plan was to add silver and gold to one of our chosen colour which made it look extravagant.

Then we designed a personal headpiece(s) to go on the mask. We thought using cardboard will be the best idea as it light and sturdy. We painted it and added details using beads, sequins and  diamanté beads.

The eyes were later decorated with the diamanté beads - we learnt how to cut the top thread so the beads will still hold together but it will bend to the shape of the eyes. It was hard work!

Lastly we added mesh and feathers and other sparkly bits to make our mask stand out even more. We made sure the right colours were chosen so it matches the masks.

We hope to see all our parents in Term 4 when we showcase these amazing masterpieces.

I’m a Maths Guru

LI - roll two dice and add the numbers

We’ve learnt how to use two dice to add the dots together. We played a game with a buddy and took turns rolling the dice. We helped each other counting if one was stuck.

Silly Sentences

LI - write independently and sound out the beginning, middle and last sounds of words in a sentence.

Now that we know how to listen to the sounds and form first sounds, end sounds, digraphs and even the middle sounds, we can now write sentences by ourselves!!! This is one of the silly sentences I wrote down - My cat is not fat but my hen is not thin.

I am a Marble Maker

LI - to read out loud my sentences

After reading the story ‘The Marble Maker’, Room 2 has made a beautiful marble using salad spinner and paint. We also talked about feelings and how we feel after making the piece of art. Did we feel proud? Do I love my marble? What does the colours make me feel?

Making bread!

LI - observe change from liquid to solid

We made bread. We added the ingredients following a special recipe (please refer to our Poem book). We used our skills we learned before to measure the ingredients. Mrs Christie and Miss Lee brought in their bread machine and we watched it go chug chug chug and mix our dough. When Mrs Christie cut the dough it felt like soft marshmallow. We told the story of The Little Red Hen as we watched the dough going in the oven. We had our bread with jam butter or marmite.
Yum!

Measuring cups and spoons

LI - to measure using baking tools

Room 2 are getting ready for our big baking day. We used measuring cups and spoons to measure how much we needed when Mrs Christie (our student teacher) asked us 1 cup or 1/2 cup and 1 table spoon and 1 teaspoon. We also sorted the bears and their porridge from smallest to biggest.

Phonics time!

LI - to recognise the first sound of a word

In Room 2 we are trying our best to sound out the sounds that we hear in a word. The word queen begins with a q, volcano begins with v, kangaroo begins with k and zoo begins with z! Look at the beautiful forming of my letters.

Tread Lightly

LI - to be aware of our environment
In Week 7, we had a special visit from Tread Lightly van. We have learned that plastic waste doesn’t degrade so we must learn how to sort our rubbish correctly. We also got a small seed that we will plant in our school planter box. I wonder what it will turn out to be!

Patterns

For maths, I am learning to recognise a pattern. A pattern repeats over and over again. It needs to stay the same. I have tried making my own pattern. Can you try and make my pattern longer?

Welcome to Room 2!

This is my blog. There will be lots of learning going on this year in Room 2 and I am ready to learn.
